15th Death Anniversary of Don Bertram de Silva Commemorated with an Almsgiving

In honor of the 15th death anniversary of the late Uswattage Don Bertram de Silva, a commemorative almsgiving was held at the department premises on April 1st 2025. Mr. Bertram de Silva, who resided at No. 220/1, Kelin Weediya, Haldummulla, passed away on April 1st, 2010.
Fulfilling the wishes outlined in his last will and testament, a special offering of vegetarian alms was respectfully presented to ten Buddhist monks and twenty-five nuns. The event took place under the patronage of the Public Trustee and was attended by departmental officers.
This charitable observance, held without interruption for the past 14 years, also paid tribute to all benefactors who have donated property to the department. Their continued generosity upholds the spirit of giving and community service exemplified by the late Mr. Bertram de Silva.

157th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sir D.B. Jayatilaka

In commemoration of the 157th birth anniversary of Sir D.B. Jayatilaka, which fell on February 14, 2025, alms were offered to ten monks, and a floral tribute ceremony was held in his honor. This event, held under the patronage of Public Trustee Mr. Gihan Pilapitiya, was grandly celebrated at the Department of the Public Trustee, with the participation of department officials, invited guests, and relatives of Sir D.B. Jayatilaka.

Achievement of Trust objectives-Ms.Rukmani Prijani Rajapaksha

An almsiving was held in remembrance of the late Ms.Rukmani Prijani Rajapaksha and other dignitaries who donated their wealth and properties to the Department of Public Trustee.Among those participating were the Public Trustee of Sri Lanka,Hon.Mr.Gihan Pilapitiya,and former public trustees Ms.Tharangani Dissanayake,Mr.Ganesh Dharmawaradana,and Mr.W.G.S. Weerathne, along with officials from the department.

Achievement of Trust objectives- D.S.W. Samarakoon Charitable Trust

A stock of essential medicines valued at Rs. 1,498,000 was donated to National Cancer Instititute (NCI) of Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama, on December 28, 2024. The generous contribution was made from the revenue of the D.S.W. Samarakoon Charitable Trust as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare services.
The donation event was graced by the department’s legal advisor, Mr. Amjad, along with Ms. Prasadi Ganewatta and Ms. Samudrika Ariyathilaka, who participated in this noble initiative. This act of generosity underscores the trust’s dedication to uplifting the health sector and assisting those in need.

Achievement of Trust Objectives- Estate of Late Dr.N.J. Cooray

The estate of late Dr.N.J.Cooray of No.971, Caroline Home, Rajagiriya is one of the prestegious assets belonging to the department of Public Trustee. With respect to the conditions of his last will , an alms giving was conducted by the deparrtment of Public Trustee for the residents of the Vicoria home for elders at Rajagiriya from the part of the accrued income of trust established by late Dr.N.J. Cooray to commemorate his birthday. Thus, as requested by the administration of the Victoria Home for elders The officials of the department have donated the neccessities to the Victoria Home for Elders on 23rd of October 2024.

Annual Pooja Ceremony at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy-2024

The annual pooja ceremony at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy, took place on the 25th and 26th of August, 2024. The event included the offering of ‘Gilampasa’ to Lord Buddha and ‘Muluthan Buddha Poojawa,’ as well as an almsgiving for the Sangha. The ceremony was conducted under the patronage of the Public Trustee of Sri Lanka, Hon. Mr. Gihan Pilapitiya, along with officials from the Department of Public Trustee.

The 80th death anniversary of the late Sir D.B.Jayathilaka

The 80th death anniversary of the late Sir D.B.Jayathilaka was commemorated by the authorities of the Department of Public Trustee by offering a floral tribute to his tombstone erected at the general cemetery, Borella. Following the commemoration, a ceremony was held at the department premises offering another floral tribute to the statue of Sir D.B. Jayathilaka was held at the department premises. With accordance to his trust objectives, the free distribution of lunch packets to the public was conducted with the collaboration of the department officials.

Achievement of Trust objectives- Sisil Wanigasooriya Trust 2024

On April 25, 2024, fifteen hundred thousand rupees worth stock of medicine was donated to the Colombo National Hospital utilizing the funds of the Sisil Wanigasuriya Trust, which was founded by the late Sisil Ernest Wanigasuriya, who lived at No. 29, Station Avenue, Wellawatta.

Annual almsgiving 2024

On the occasion of the 14th death anniversary of Mr. Don Bertram Silva of Uswatte, resident of No. 220/1, Kelin Street, Haldummulla, who passed away on 04.01.2010, an annual almsgiving was given to ten Bikkus and twenty-five Silmatas as per the objectives of his last will on 04.03.2024. The almsgiving was held in the departmental premises under the direction of the Public Trustee.

Achieving trust objectives- Senehelatha Amarasinghe Trust- 2024

On January 11, 2024, a lunch and dry food donation was made to the Handala Wattala Leprosy Hospital patients on behalf of the Senehelatha Amarasinghe Charitable Trust, which was founded by Mrs. Senehelatha Amarasinghe, who lived at 20, Skelton Road, Colombo 05.

Achievement of trust objectives – Estate of N.J.A. Cooray 2023

One of the purposes of the last will of Mr. John Austin Cooray, resident of No. 971 Caroline House, Welikada, Rajagiriya, is to donate to the residents of Victoria House, Nawala, Rajagiriya to celebrate his birthday. On 29.12.2023, the scholarship section of the department carried out this great task.

Save a Baby

To achieve the trust objectives of Sisil Wanigasuriya Trust for the year 2023, a financial donation was given to the ‘Save a Baby’ project on 02nd of November 2023 with the participation of the Public Trustee and the Deputy public trustee of Sri Lanka. This donation was given to purchase ‘Surfactant’ medicine, which was essential for curing the breathing difficulties of premature infants.

Intensive Care Unit Foundation Trust

In 1982, Ven. Yatinuwara Indrarathna thero established the intensive care unit foundation trust. The main objective of this trust was to provide medical aid to the intensive care unit of the national hospital Colombo. On October 24, 2023, authorities of the public trustee department donated 139 rolls of cotton wool (500g) to the Colombo National Hospital from the revenue of the trust.

The Renovation Project

The renovation project of the Public Trustee Department’s office building commenced on October 2, 2023, with the labour contribution of the Sri Lanka Army.

Old Konayagar Devalaya

Under the patronage of the Public Trustee of Sri Lanka, the Deputy Public Trustee, and with the participation of the department officials, the paddy auction for the 2023 Maha season of the ancient Konayagar Devalaya in Thamblagamuwa, Trincomalee took place on October 6, 2023. The auction was held as one of the trust objectives of the old Konayagar Devalaya trust.

Nawalapitiya Kadireshan Vidyalaya

On October 24, 2023, the Public Trustee of Sri Lanka, the Principal of Kadireshan Vidyalaya, and the President and Treasurer of the past pupils’ association of Kadireshan Vidyalaya participated in the foundation of the trust for the development of sports of Nawalapitiya Kadireshan Vidyalaya.
